Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

Okay, guys. I know it's the month of February and Valentine's Day was a few weeks ago. I decided not to even see any of the movies coming out for that day and do a review over it, so sorry for those of you who really like those kinds of movies. I am personally not a fan of in depth love stories. But, if you think one comes out and is a must-see, feel free to let me know your thoughts on it and I'd be happy to consider it.

This week, I did decide to go on the family route for this post. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. I honestly was really hesitant on seeing this movie because I wasn't sure if I had to see a movie prior to this one in order to understand it. Well, the answer to that is no. I mean there is a movie before it, but you don't need to see it in order to see this movie. Although I recommend it. Unless you've read the books.

This movie is really directed for a younger audience, but I think that it's movie that everyone can enjoy. It stars Josh Hutcherson, from the first film and who will also appear in the upcoming movie The Hunger Games, Vanessa Hudgens, who I'm sure everyone knows but doesn't want to admit they know her from the High School Musical movies on the Disney Channel, and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, who needs no introduction. There's quite the imaginative adventure that goes on in the movie and seeing it in 3D makes the movie a lot more fun, I think. I think a movie in 3D is best when animation plays a role in the movie. The movie is filled with lots of out of this world activity. It makes if fun for everyone to enjoy and they actors play a good role in making it fun. There's of course a romance in the movie that kind of hogs a bit of the adventure story, but it definatly doesn't ruin it. I highly recommend to this this movie because honestly I didn't think I would enjoy it. But in the end, it made me realize that for any age it opens up your imagination and that's good for me.

Chronicle

There's always that certain hype that people get when a new movie is coming out. I find myself to be quite a movie person and find myself in this 'hype' a lot. I don't like to read a lot of reviews before I go see a movie because I don't want any spoilers, strong opinions, or anything else to persuade my outlook on a good or bad movie.

This week I decided to go with a movie that I, personally, really anticipated. Chronicle. I'm a fan of the X-Men movies and I didn't know if that would affect my view of this movie or not. Usually when you think of a movie with super powers you think of X-Men, right? Well, I tried not to keep that in mind when going to see this movie because I'm not sure I really wanted to compare it to that. The characters didn't seem really well known, but after this movie I think it opens a lot for these young actors.

The movie is a view of first person, so you might want to prepare yourself for that. If you've ever seen Cloverfield (2008), then you know what I mean. The plot is kind of slow, but the movie is well worth the wait. I don't want to reveal any spoilers, but I think it's a really good interpretion of a movie with characters that actually emphasize the 'powers' in the characters. When going to see a fantasy/sci-fi kind of movie, I think it's important for the audience to somewhat escape from reality. I think the movie did a really well job with that. I think the movie has a really good flow with the younger crowd and some can say relate a lot to the characters. A lot would say it gave kind of a Blair Witch vibe and I did get that. The suspense, anticipation, and the on edge fellings were all present. The movie is well worth it and I really enjoyed it and would like to see it again.
